Camera & Mise en Scene 
  • Green screen shows appropriate audience who can watch the film.
  • Long of the location “Recruitment Centre” suggests that they’re looking for people to join the army. 5 American flag is shown to represent the country. There is low key lighting which reflects the sadness and depression of WWII. The saturated lighting on the sign, highlights the significance of this place as this is the only place that they able to get a job.
  • Long shot of the potential soldiers cuing up suggesting that they want the same job and they’re desperate Medium shot of the protagonist’s expression suggests that he’s disappointed by the rejection as he has lost hope and confidence. The male protagonist is standing at the front, topless, which implies that he seems weak and young making him look vulnerable and helpless this subverts the representation of male protagonists as they’re normally masculine and strong.
  • Camera cuts to show the production title, showing the audience the distribution company which may encourage them to go and watch the film. Marvel logo has an established audience due to the comic books so it targets a certain group, however it can widen the audience as the film in the action genre.
  • A high angle shot has been used to show the male protagonist as being shown as worthless character to the audience. The audience would sympathise with him as he is going through a hard time. However he is determined to fulfil his dreams. The place where he was being beaten up was near the dustbin area, with the dull lighting connoting that he was having a rough day; however he’s strong minded which is a heroic characteristics which is expected by the audience.
  • A medium shot is shown of the male protagonist staring at a picture of some solider then his refection appears suggesting that it gives him an insight of what his hard work could lead to.
  • An over the shoulder shot is shown where a solider downgrade to make him feel bad and be hopeless for himself. Two shot has been presented from behind the soldiers implying that he controls them. The conversation by the solider as he speaks to the male protagonist, this shows through his uniform as it present higher status and power compared to the protagonist.
  • In the next few scenes there are conventions of an action genre which includes explosion and guns making the scenes more energetic and fast paced, intriguing the target audience.
  • There’s machinery and high technology implying that they’re going to experiment on him, from his expression he seems like he’s desperate to improve his physical strength in order to be confident.
  • From the close up shot it reveals the love interest of the protagonist. She’s look prominent because of her bold red lipstick which makes her look more attractive.
  • The long shot reveals the transformation as it shocks other characters and the audience with the outcome. There is a use of high key lighting suggesting power and dominance due to improvement of his physical strength.
  • In the next scene medium shot is used to show him training and emphasises him building up for quest.
  • The antagonists are introduced from a medium shot, his back faces away from the audience leaving his identity as a mystery, and this is an enigma code. There is low key lighting reflects the antagonist’s characteristics. His black leather jacket connotes that he is a typical villain, however his true identity is revealed to the audience, which suggests that he has two personalities, and he has deceived the audience and the protagonist.
